The Farmlands! Empty The Farmlands!

In a small rural borderland between the Eastern and Western Empires, the simple folk here flourish. They plant their grain, they pray it doesn't get diseased, and they reap their rewards. They are self-reliant and live comfortably. The farmers here are incredibly suspicious of magic - some even going so far as to form mobs to attack the Palonian sanctuaries and Paladin chapels!
But the undead have reached their little pocket of the world. Thousands upon thousands come pouring out of the west, burning villages and feeding their horde. Several unlikely heroes find themselves in the midst of the attack, and find themselves being counted on by the mayors of various towns to singlehandedly protect them from attack. Will you be able to, or will you fall - and do the opposite?

GAMEPLAY

I'm trying to incorporate a more RPG feeling into this coupled with the randomness of a living world, unlike, say, TKoK ORPG.
Let's say one game you head into the Dratik Forest, get lost, and stumble around for five minutes hoping the undead don't find you. You get out and find Aldrich's farm at the border of the forest. You go up and talk to him. He wishes you luck and offers you some bread. You head to the nearest town, sell the bread for some cash and buy a mercenary. You head back to the farm. It's burnt down to the ground and the farmer is now reaching for your brains.

The hero picking system will allow you to choose between five races, with five classes for each race. Take, for example, the Palonians

-Palonian

The Palonian sanctuary is located here, north of the expansive Dratik forest. It provides a place for Palonians to rest and practice magic without being lynched by countless mobs of uneducated farmers.

-Golem
A magical golem, animated and given sentience by its insane creator. This golem can deliver blows with crushing force, as well as use its vast knowlage of the arcane to protect from death itself.
-Mage
Palonian mages are renowned for their practices in the arcane. Mages, unlike their brethren who have become Battle Mages, focus on offensive magics and rain chaos down upon enemies from a distance.
-Battle Mage
Battle Mages are heavily armored magic users that focus on defensive magic. They focus on avoiding and reducing incoming damage - as well as being able to soak it up once these defenses fail.
-Prodigy
A prodigy discovers he had a certain affinity for the arcane at a very young age. Beginning adulthood, these rare memberes of Palonian society are already renowned for their remarkable skills. Magic this powerful comes at a cost, however, and the majority of his spells focus on dealing immense amounts of damage at the cost of his own wellbeing!
-Mage Guard
In a society so dependant on magic as the Palonians, there must be a way to keep that magic in check, lest there be criminals with no way to stop them. Mage Guards are the solution. They are heavily armed warriors that are enchanted to be immune to magic, perfect keepers of the peace in a magical society.

There may only be one of any class in a single game. Every class will have its own strengths, weaknesses, and backstory. There offensive heroes, defensive heroes, and heroes that depend on hiring, upkeeping, and keeping your army happy.
