My understanding of the map.
Here is what I believe the map is based on story-wise, and this is how I will map out the terrain:
The North:
The north was a heavily urban and slum-like territory which wasn't watched over very well, thus the plague spread fast in these areas.
Kidpaler and I intend to make this look as much like a city as possible, with narrow streets and several back alleys and lots.
The South:
A primarily Rural area with some suburban areas, the crusade took hold here because of its wide plains which allowed for many outposts and fortresses.
Like said above, we are going to make this a land of plains and farms, with the occasional small town.
Combat Elements:
Units will drop random items, Heroes will be able to make item combinations, and there will be many dungeons.
I'm going to try to make it as seamless as possible, so that you can weave in and out of dungeons/PVP.
There most likely will be a choice to continue playing after defeating the enemy stronghold
Your thoughts?

The Undead of the North are also into this war for vengeance upon the government, because if they watched over them in the first place the plague wouldn't have gotten to them.

Re: My understanding of the map.
Is this the civil-war era U.S.?
I like the idea, mayhaps make the dungeons faction-based so the heroes can defend their own or attack their enemies.
